SUNDAY AFTERNOON DETOUR
by Jessica DePue

It's so easy to play up your breakdown
It's so easy to fly through a window,
To fool with the sound...
-
The Cars, Moving In Stereo
I am wheels on cement
A heart burning herself
From lifetimes removed
Fragments in motion
I looped Moving in Stereo
Suspended my flight
Through windows
High tide threw rocks
Shattered infinity
Lapped up our sodium ancestry
Like a prehistoric salt lick

Stones crashed, splintered
Segwayed irratically
The way he drifts
In and out
A consistent variable

Bucket seats incubate nerves
Detach, reserve windy hours for
Desert detours
Nothing touches
I pull myself closer
Held this way
Steadied
